Parliament proceedings live |  Rajya Sabha saw high productivity in recent sessions: Naidu

The second part of the budget session of Parliament starts today, but its duration is likely to decrease as most of the top politicians are busy campaigning for the assembly elections to be held in March-April. Now, the season concludes on 8 April.

In the second part of the session, the focus of the government is to get the various demands for grants for the year 2021-22 along with the Finance Bill bearing various tax proposals. Some of the government-listed bills include the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (Amendment) bill, the National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development bill, the Electricity (Amendment) bill, the crypto currency and the official digital currency bill.

The first part of the budget session began on 29 January with the President’s address to the joint sitting of the two Houses of Parliament. More than 20 opposition parties, including the Congress, boycotted the address in support of the demand for protesting farmers to repeal the three agricultural laws.

Opposition parties are demanding a discussion on rising fuel prices in their seats. Congress has passed an adjournment motion on this issue.

Mr. Naidu praised Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, who has taken over as the Leader of the Opposition after the retirement of Ghulam Nabi Azad.

He congratulates the House for high productivity in recent seasons. He says that the first half of the budget session saw 100% productivity.

Mr. Naidu reads the details of the functioning of the Standing Committee, and says that the participation of non-Congress parties is very limited and the number of members not attending a single meeting of the committee has increased.

Mr. Naidu says that the footfall in the Library of Parliament is not encouraging. “Go to the library, this is your own library.”

Mr. Naidu says, “I appeal to all members to keep it in the House, look into the debate and enrich their knowledge.”

Proceedings begin in Rajya Sabha

Former Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) MP Biswajit Dimari was sworn in as BJP MP. He resigned from the BPF to join the BJP. Mr. Daimary takes oath in Bodo language.

The newly elected BJP MPs of Gujarat, Rambhai Harjibhai Mokriya and Dineshchandra Anavadia take oath. Both seats were vacant after the death of Congress leader Ahmed Patel and BJP MP Abhay Bhardwaj.

Speaker Venkaiah Naidu asked the members not to wear party symbols inside the house.
