Sunrisers Hyderabad started their IPL 2021 campaign on Sunday against Kolkata Knight Riders in Chennai. SRH made it to the playoffs last season but could not repeat their 2016 title-winning run. With David Warner pairing with Hale and Kane Williamson, Johnny Bairstow, Jason Roy, Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, SRH presented a strong challenge for the IPL title this year as well. With the exception of Roy, who landed in Chennai on Saturday and will be released, the rest of the above players are available for selection.

SRH has a well-balanced squad with young and experienced Indian players in the mix, such as Manish Pandey, T Natarajan, Khalil Ahmed, Priyam Garg and Siddharth Kaul among others.

Here are the players to watch

Rashid Khan

Rashid has been one of the most consistent performers for SRH over the years and has returned to India and useful pitches at the MA Chidambaram Stadium with 75 wickets in 62 matches. He took 20 wickets in 16 matches last season and was instrumental in SRH’s journey to the playoffs. With an economy rate of 6.24 runs per over, he is forced to struggle in the middle overs.

Bhuvaneshwar Kumar

Bhuvneshwar’s previous IPL season was short due to injury but his comeback has been one in terms of age. The fast bowler starred with the new ball and died in the recently concluded limited-overs series against England. He took six wickets and four wickets in five ODIs against England and finished at 4.65 and 6.38 respectively against England.

Promoted

Johnny bairstow

Bairstow had a simple Test series against India but due to lost opportunities in leg in limited overs, the Englishman scored 118 runs in T20Is at a strike rate of 137.20 and 219 runs in ODIs at a strike rate of 120.32. He has formed a superb opening combination with Warner and the England-Australia pair will look to move on from the previous season.
