Delhi Capital, last year’s runner-up, wants to go one step further this year, says Mohammad Kaif, assistant coach in the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy. The former India batsman participated in his first practice session with the team on Saturday and he feels he has the players to end the drought this year. After being ruled out of IPL 2021 following an injury to regular captain Shreyas Iyer, the Delhi outfit have handed over the reins of the team to Rishabh Pant for the upcoming season.
He said, “We want to go one step further this year and that is the goal of the Delhi Capital team. We have the players to win the title. We were very close last year and the plus point of this season is that most players like Rishabh Pant said in a DC press release, “They are playing a lot of cricket. They are in touch with the game and hence they are in good rhythm in the IPL. “
In the absence of head coach Ricky Ponting, who is still in quarantine, Kaif took care of the team’s practice session held at the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai.
Kaif, known for his athletics during his playing days, decided to test the fielding skills of the players and hold them under the lights. The 40-year-old former batsman was delighted to meet young talent along with veteran campaigners like Ajinkya Rahane and Ravichandran Ashwin.

The players caught a few catches under the lights. It was a great session “I got it. Meet many young players and experienced people in the team. I had a good conversation with Ravichandran Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane,” Kaif said in a media release.
Delhi Capital will begin the IPL 2021 campaign against the three-time champions Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on 10 April.
