An automobile workshop in Coimbatore seems to be something that politicians agree with. Many high-profile politicians refurbished their vehicles before starting their campaign.
The workshop, Coes & Sons, has been refurbishing vehicles for this election season since last November, says PV Mohammad Riaz, managing director.
Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, DMK President MK Stalin and Makkal Neidi Mayim (MNM) founder Kamal Haasan are some of the politicians whose vehicles have now been sprayed in the workshop. Formerly, it has also led former Chief Ministers M.K. Worked on Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa’s vehicles.
Founded in 1969 by Mr. Riaz’s father PV Hassan, the workshop specializes in customizing maxi cabs for expeditions, fitting them with front seats, hydraulic and manual steps, sun-roofs and footsteps, and handles for safety men. to do.
“When a leader wants to go up and talk, there is no need to get down and go to the back of the vehicle,” Mr. Riaz says, explaining the purpose of the revolving seats. Other facilities include large rest rooms, loudspeakers and satellite television.
The workshop also produces SUVs for leaders for campaigning in remote areas. The cost per vehicle will be a few lakh rupees per vehicle.
So far, almost all orders have come from Tamil Nadu, although the workshop had received orders from politicians from Kerala and Andhra Pradesh, also in the past.
Mr. Riaz has worked with many leaders. But he remembers the adaptation Karunanidhi made to his vehicle to accommodate the DMK patron’s wheelchair during his campaign in Coimbatore. “I was in the vehicle with him,” he says with a smile.
