It took ten years on social media to commemorate and pay tribute to Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh for India’s 2011 ODI World Cup 2011 victory. The pair were part of the team led by MS Dhoni, who defeated Sri Lanka in the final at the Wankhede Stadium on 2 April 2011. This was India’s second ODI World Cup trophy after the 1983 victory. Taking to Twitter, Sehwag shared a team celebration photo with the trophy at the Wankhede Stadium, and he captioned it, “April 2: 10 years ago, time of a lifetime. #TeamIndia”.

Meanwhile, Yuvraj posted a video on Twitter and wrote, “April 2, 2011 – a day when history was made! We wanted to win the WC and Master @sachin_rt for India who fulfilled the nation’s expectations for decades ! To represent India and bring pride to our country #AlwaysBleedBlue # WC2011 @ICC @BCCI “.”

In the video, Yuvraj revealed that Team India wanted to win the World Cup trophy for Sachin.
“The whole team wanted to win the World Cup so badly, especially for Sachin as it was his last World Cup. We also wanted to win in India, which had not happened before,” he said.
During the 2011 World Cup, India defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets in the final.
In response to Sri Lanka’s score, the hosts scored 277 for four in 48.2 overs to give Dhoni the winning six. Yuvraj was also unbeaten for India, formed a crucial partnership with Dhoni and contributed to chasing 21 runs.
The all-rounder made a fine bowling performance with the wickets of Kumar Sangakkara and Thilan Samaraweera. He was adjudged Player of the Tournament for his performance with bat and ball.
On the other hand, Sehwag made a disappointing start to the final, bowling out as an opener off two balls.

Since the win in 2011, two more World Cups have been held in 2015 and 2019 respectively, with Australia and England coming out on top respectively.
During the recent World Cup in 2019, Virat Kohli led India to the semi-finals, losing to runners-up New Zealand.
