Consumers spend $ 32 billion on apps in 2021

According to data from app analytics firm App Annie, global consumer spending on apps on the Apple App Store and Google Play reached $ 32 billion in the first three months of 2021.

The smartphone app ecosystem saw tremendous growth last year, and last year saw a more than 20% increase in the weekly time spent on the app in the first three months.

Consumer spending is an app metric that includes spending on in-app purchases, subscriptions, and premium app downloads.

There has been a 40% increase in consumer spending compared to the same period last year. It is also said that $ 9 billion was spent on Q1 2020 to smartphone users in Q1 2021.

App downloads on both App Stores grew 10% to 31 billion in the quarter. Separately, spending on apps on iOS increased 40% year-over-year to $ 21 billion.

The short video app Tickcock and the social network Facebook were the top two apps for downloads in the March-ended quarter. YouTube and TikTok ranked the list in terms of global consumer spending, while Facebook and WhatsApp Messenger saw the most monthly active users.

The privacy-focused messaging app was the second fastest growing app of the quarter by signal download and monthly-active users, followed by rival app Telegram. According to App Annie, MX Takatak is an Indian short user-generated video content app, which is the fastest downloadable app.

Total consumer spending on gaming is $ 22 billion, with iOS gamers spending about $ 13 billion. According to App Annie, mobile gaming is set to reach $ 120 billion in consumer spending.
