AP SEC takes action against electrifying by ward volunteers

Complaints can be lodged at the Commission’s 24×7 call center, 0866-2466877.

State Election Commissioner Ann. Ramesh Kumar said in a press release that the inclusion of ward volunteers for urban local bodies (ULB) elections is prohibited and constitutes an electoral offense in violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

Mr. Kumar said that complaints can be lodged at 0866-2466877, 24×7 call center of the Commission and action will be taken immediately. Complaints can also be mailed to [email protected]. Complaints can be lodged with the respective District Collectors and Municipal Commissioners.

In addition, written complaints can be filed with election officials.

District collectors and city commissioners were instructed to take prompt action on receiving complaints and to create awareness in the general public against illegal electrification practices involving ward volunteers.

Mr. Kumar further stated that ward volunteers should not vote for a favorite contestant of the beneficiary groups. This would be a punishable offense under the election law.
