What is the biggest flaw of the 2021 NCAA tournament?
Was it verbal Roberts on Ohio State? Purdue on North Texas? Was this UCLA going from a First Four position to a Final Four?
Or it was, perhaps, organized by the NCAA team to create an environment for 68 competing teams that have allowed 63 out of 63 games to go according to plan. Only VCU, of which 64 teams have been eliminated, went home without a loss. A lot of skepticism was expressed about whether the NCAA could shut it down, and there was little praise for achieving it with the bare minimum of very few COVID blockages.

The NCAA has not been right in this. The misconduct with the five officers led to the incident being abandoned as the contact developed in large part because there was not enough hotel space available when the referee arrived – it was not a great moment. But it seems more of a different example than a trend.
People may be waiting for the NCAA to acknowledge the extraordinary work it has done to plan and carry out the tournament, so as not to spike football before crossing the goal line.
This is a reasonable approach. We can expect the three Final Four games to be oblivious to the epidemic, as were the Elite Eight and the Sweet 16. But if those games are stopped as planned then there should be some honns.
These last four teams offer a chance to decide the championship on the court, and it looks like the NCAA will deliver it.

1. Gonzaga

Why they can win it: The Cougars have shown that they can make trouble with teams that are equally long and dynamic. Like Memphis. Good for the Cougars, then, because they alone were responsible for convincing the Tigers they did not make the NCAAS, beating them twice in the final week of the regular season. There are no such teams in the final four, although there are definitely better teams. But matchups make the difference in tournaments. So it makes sense that the Cougars’ defensive commitment and ability to execute their switching plans and dominate the boards could lead to two wins at this level. This required better shooting performance from All-American Quentin Grimes, who was 10 to 30 in the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight wins. They have the ability to squeeze boiler shooters from the line and punish the Bears on offensive boards. Why they won’t: The Cougars hold semifinal rival Baylor in large numbers, even against extraordinary opposition. 4. UCLA
Why they can win it: One thing that was impressive about the Bruins through the prior field games was how determined they were about imposing their preferred momentum on the opposition. They were never an end-to-end fastbreak team, but injuries and departures have robbed Brins of depth and mobility to act that way at higher levels. So they have completely become a Peace Team – and a really good one.
