The extra laps capped a chaotic run that was marked by tire wear, poor visibility, and multiple debris on the restart. The crash prompted NASCAR to switch to a single-file restart in Stage 2.

Despite all this, NASCAR announced before the end of the race that it would run another dirt race in Bristol in the spring of 2022. Prior to this year, NASCAR’s top national series last ran on dirt in 1970.
