8 students positive in hostel test in Bengaluru

With eight students from a government-run medical and engineering hostel in the Vidyapeeth testing for COVID-19, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palik (BBMP) has declared it a cluster. It is close to the heels of five members of the family who tested positive in Thanisandra.

Civilian head n. Manjunath Prasad said that the first positive case came up on 8 March. Subsequently, the student was counseled and transferred to Victoria Hospital on the same day.

BBMP officials then identified 158 primary contacts, which were tested on March 9 and 10. On March 7, it was tested positive. All the seven students have now been shifted to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Jayanagar.

Mr. Prasad said that students who have tested negative, have been instructed to follow the COVID-19 protocol if any symptoms develop and get them tested immediately. The civic body will conduct a compulsory repeat test on the students on the seventh day from the day of the first test.

COVID Care Center

The BBMP is also considering reopening the COVID care center as the number of positive cases should increase as a precaution. Mr. Prasad on Friday directed the officials to start preparing the centers as not all the citizens would have the facility of house segregation. He also suggested roping in private CCC facilities when necessary.
