35 Indian rovers included in Tokyo Olympics hopes, get second dose of COVID-19 vaccine

35 Indian rovers, including those preparing for the Tokyo Olympic qualification, have been given a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, making them the first sports group in the country to be fully vaccinated. In addition to the 35 routers, some coaches and other support staff have also been given a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at the Army Sports Institute in Pune on Saturday. “A total of 35 rovers at ASI Pune and a few coaches and support staff received their second dose on Saturday,” Rajalakshmi Singh Dev, president of the Rowing Federation of India, said on Sunday.

Those include 35 who have been selected to compete in the World Rowing Asia Oceania Continental Qualification Regatta competition to be held in Tokyo from May 5-7.

The DO said that he expected Indian rovers to make the cut for the Tokyo Olympics to be held from July 23 to August 8.

“We are expecting two boats to qualify for the Olympics, we are hoping to qualify from this Tokyo event,” he said.

At the 2016 Rio Olympics, only Dattu Baban Bhokanal, who won a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games, qualified in the men’s singles sculls and finished 13th.

The Olympic-bound Indian archer, who is from ASI Pune, has also received his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and will get his second job before leaving for the upcoming World Cup Stage I in Guatemala City from 19 April next week.

As part of their vaccination campaign, ASI vaccinated all the archers, including eight front-line Indians – Atanu Das, Tarundeep Rai, Praveen Jadhav and B. Dheeraj (reserve) Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat, Komalika Bari and Madhu Vedwan (reserve) ).

The first dose of vaccine has been given to everyone in the 16-member senior Indian team, including coaches and support staff.
