No one knows anything when it comes to baseball. We don’t talk enough about that. We often think that we know what will happen, but baseball is always played by our own set of random rules.
While some things often give an idea of what we expect – a division winner, an All-Star selection, a World Series matchup, etc. – the whole thing is a giant crepeshoot and we are all necessarily broken watches when It comes into vogue.
More: 21 things I really want to see in the 2021 season
As usual, I contributed to Sporting News’ official 2021 forecasts. Nothing surprising there, so I’m taking a different approach here. I’m going to get super-specific. You should not understand anything about reading. This is all stuff that can legitimately happen. Still, I would definitely be wrong about almost everything, if the 2019 version is any indication.
So read them, review them from time to time, then roast me on Twitter in October.
ready? Here are 21 very specific predictions made for the 2021 season.
1. Mike Trout would hit .306 with 32 homers, exactly 100 RBIs and-.452 on-base percentage. He will be worth 8.6 WAR and win the AL MVP award.
2. Ronald Acuna Jr. would hit 42 homers and have 112 RBIs. He would win the NL MVP Award with a 7.1 WAR. Oh, he would seal exactly 40 bases to join that sweet 40/40 club.
3. Jacob Degrom would win 22 games. Although the win of the pitcher is silly, it will still be quiet.
४. Fernando Tatis will finish close to Acuna in the junior MVP race. He would bat .310 with 36 homers and 104 RBIs, with a WAR of 6.9.
5. The Padres would win the NL West by a game over the Dolors. They would win 100 games for the Dodgers’ 99.
६. This year, two pitchers will meet to make home runs. One of them will be Madison Bumgarner. But mostly, the pitcher will be terrible, hitting .100 for the year. Seriously, BELOW .100!
… Freddy Freeman would win the NL batting title with a .329 average.
… DJ Lehmah would win the AL batting title with a .337 average.
९. The Yankees’ longest win streak of the season would be the Yankees, who would drop out of 10 straight in June.
10. The longest losing streak of the season would be the Orioles, who would fall nine straight in May.
