The state reported 2,035 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday when 58,344 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative case burden to 10,89,478. The positivity rate for the exam was 3.49% on day one.
With 3,256 reported recoveries, the active case pool again reached 30,939.
Cumulative recoveries have increased to 10, 53,859. The cumulative death figure was raised to 4,381 by adding 12 new deaths in the last few days to the official list.
Three deaths occurred in Thrissur, while one each in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod.
According to reports, the number of critically ill patients who are currently undergoing treatment in ICUs at various hospitals has come down to 504.
Out of 2,035 new cases, 1,820 cases are considered to be locally acquired infections through contact with other infected individuals. This includes reported infections in 13 health care workers. In 48 cases, the Health Department has given a history of travel to other states. No history of travel or contact with infected persons is reported or known in case of 167 infections.
In districts, Kozhikode has the maximum number of new cases with 255 cases, Ernakulam 232, Kollam 224, Kannur 205, Malappuram 173, Kottayam 168, Thiruvananthapuram 162, Thrissur 153, Alappuzha 133, Kasaragod 84, Palakkad 80, Pathanamthitta 70, Wayanad 53 Was recorded. And Idukki 43.
Foreign travelers
Another person from South Africa and another person from Brazil, who arrived in Kerala in the last 24 hours, have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2.
With this, a total of 103 individuals from abroad have tested positive since mid-December. This includes 99 people from the UK, three from South Africa and one from Brazil. Official reports state that 89 of them tested negative.
So far, 11 individuals have tested positive for the virus variant B.1.1.7, including an exposure to a UK return.
