A total of 154 patients were tested in the central region on Saturday, of which 89 were from Thanjavur district. Two deaths – one each in Thanjavur and Tiruchi.
A 78-year-old man from Thanjavur with a history of high blood pressure and a 68-year-old man from Tiruchira succumbed to a viral infection on Saturday with a diabetic disease.
Out of 89 who tested positive in Thanjavur, 29 were students from schools in Pattukkottai and Thanjavur. Thiruvarur had 22 new cases and Tiruchi 19 registered.
One of the patients in Tiruchi was a teacher of a government school in Manachanallur, who gave a positive report on Saturday. His wife, a teacher in Thanjavur, tested positive for viral infection a few days ago, after which primary contacts were tested.
“His child gave negative information. As a precautionary measure, 129 samples have been taken from some students and other primary contacts of the teacher, ”said senior health officials from Tiruchi.
Meanwhile, nine patients undergoing treatment at Tiruchi Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital were discharged after recovering.
Minor spikes have been reported in Nagapattinam district with 17 patients.
Five patients were tested in Karur and five in Ariyalur. Two cases were reported at Pudukottai and one at Perambalur.
