The flying squad of Madurai North Assembly constituency seized an unaccounted amount of ₹ 13.50 lakh on a two-wheeler near the Selur Gol Chakra here on Thursday.
Returning officer of the constituency. Premkumar said that the two-wheeler rider claimed that he was traveling from Dindigul district. “He can collect cash from the committee only after submitting the necessary documents,” he said.
Mr. Premkumar said that the public was advised not to take more than the 50,000 in view of implementing the model code of conduct before the assembly elections. “They can use checks instead or go for digital options for financial transactions,” he said.
Data received from the district administration shows that unaccounted money of 5,07,120 has been seized by the Flying Squad and Static Surveillance teams from March 5 to 10. March. These seizures were affected in Madurai North (about 1.46 lakh), Madurai. East (an 3.04 Lakh) and Sholavandan (900 55,900) constituencies. During this period there was no seizure of unaccounted money from the other seven assembly constituencies.
District Election Officer and Collector T. Ambalagan said that three flying squads, three static surveillance teams and videography teams were deployed in 10 constituencies of the district. All teams worked round the clock to investigate violations of the Model Code of Conduct.
